Zombies, magickal expectations, intentional blindness, Cthulhu, and pseudo-Satanists

This marks the second edition of Saturday Signal, Plutonica.net’s attempt to sift signal from the noise of the Internet’s occultural cacophony.

Last week Beth (author of Sacred Sonoma) asked “how our “fun day” (Saturday) got named after the least fun god/planet of the week”.

Fun facts: Saturday was named in the second century, and is the only day of the week whose name comes from Roman mythology.  According to Wikipedia, it was “called dies Saturni (“Saturn’s Day”), through which…it entered into Old English as Sæternesdæg and gradually evolved into the word Continue reading »

Schedule changes for Plutonica.net

By Psyche | June 30, 2008

Grandfather\'s Wedding in PenetanguisheneRegular readers will have noticed that our usual post-a-day momentum has not been maintained for the month of June.

Along with the summer come a variety of events which make it near impossible to sustain this posting rate, such as our Summer Solstice Feast, my Grandfather’s wedding (pictured left), my birthday and a host of other commitments.

As such, Plutonica.net‘s posting schedule will change from a post-a-day to three posts weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  We’ll continue keeping you up to date with the latest in occult news, publishing announcements, reviews, and showcasing insightful essays and commentary from our guest bloggers, never you fear.

Guest blogging for Plutonica.net

By Psyche | May 25, 2008

The idea behind guest blogging is to showcase other bloggers and writers. It offers a chance to promote someone else’s work, and provides a change from my voice and style. Additionally, there are topics I might not think to cover that another person would.

After Kara Rae Garland (Soror Ceilede) guest blogged for us last month I’ve been looking into featuring more guest bloggers on Plutonica.net and have made some inquiries with several talented writers, and others have approached me about the possibility of writing for the site.

In light of this I’ve put together some suggestions covering the most common things I’ve been asked about here in Suggestions for Guest Bloggers. It covers things like topics, post length, and what to include in your byline.

If you’d be interested, or if you’d like to know more, contact me.

Dear God

By Psyche | April 21, 2008

Dear God is a blog of reader-submitted prayers.

It doesn’t matter what your version of God is…Jesus, Allah, Buddha or simply a spiritual universal energy… praying to a higher power soothes and heals.

Prayers are organized into categories such as Confessions, Death, Hope, Sex, Stress; and each is accompanied by an image sent in by the supplicant or by Dear God if none is available.

Some are incredibly personal, or angry, others simply touching.

It’s a weirdly wistful sort of voyeurism, reading these cries from the heart. Perhaps especially so for an atheist.
