Is your hoster expecting a certain certificate maybe?

A great article as always. You mentioned the scenarios where the certificate must be valid (hybrid, domain security or forced TLS). We use none of those but experienced an issue where due to a cert our 2016 Exchange servers stopped relaying e-mails to our 3rd party hosted service (smarthost). A week before the 3rd party cert expiration date we installed and configured the replacement cert and left the old one on the server. We thought the old cert wasn’t being used, but when it expired the servers stopped relaying e-mail. Are there other conditions you didn’t mention where the cert is required to be valid?
