At the moment, cross-tenant synchronization only creates guest users who are not able to assign mailboxes. You may need to do a conversion at the later stage of the project so users can be assigned a mailbox. Of course, as Tony suggests, you should engage a consultant to help.

I think these are excellent questions that need answers to be worked out by T2T project coordinators. Every project is different, so I hesitate in recommending a particular course of action, especially with the Microsoft 365 multi-tenant organization (in preview) option available for consideration.

The sync process seems to work well with tenant coexistence running in parallel, but what about when a migration begins? Can the synced account in the target tenant be licensed with a mailbox to support migrating data, and/or what would be the process on a cutover since the email addresses would need to be brought over?
