Plutonica.net - An esoteric blog exploring the occult and occulture, philosophy, spirituality, and magick.

About the Book Club

Vision

The Plutonica.net Esoteric Book Club isn’t just another general occult forum. It’s a space dedicated to esoteric and occult literature and what people do with it.

It tackles the same themes our blog is focused on: philosophy, spirituality, magick and occulture, with a little biography and occult lit tossed in for good measure.

If you’re new, stop in and introduce yourself.

Background

The idea of this book club started a few years ago when I was more (tangentially) involved with the local Pagan community. There was some interest in starting a book club, but few resources seemed able to accommodated such a thing in practice and the idea was dropped.

Now, with an ever-expanding community online, it seems like a good time to revisit this project, but in a new venue.

Genres

Over time, we’ll read from a wide variety of esoteric and occult literature, from classic authors such as Paracelsus, Agrippa, Levi; to those who have deeply influenced modern occulture such as Blavatsky, Crowley and Spare; and the philosophers who inspired them Nietzsche, Vaihinger, etc.; and, of course, more contemporary authors as well. We can read occult fiction, poetry, biography. We can read whatever we want.

Most important, we will be engaging in what we’re reading, as we’re reading it. Sharing thoughts, asking questions, hopefully going deeper into material together than we might have the opportunity otherwise, alone.

How it Works

We’ll gather suggestions a month or so beforehand in Recommendations, vote on what we’d like to tackle next, then start the process over again.
