New movie about Aleister Crowley opens May 2008

The Chemical Wedding is a film about Aleister Crowley co-written by Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson and the film’s director Julian Doyle.
Simon Callow plays Professor Haddo, a Cambridge professor who “becomes” Aleister Crowley.
Crowley’s spirit is re-animated by a superconductor mainframe, transforming the shy and stuttering Professor Haddo (Callow) into the charismatic but sexually depraved Crowley who wreaks havoc with the students and faculty of today’s Cambridge campus.

John Shrapnel plays Aleister Crowley. Also starring in the film is Kal Weber as Dr Mathers and Geoff Breton as John Symonds.
The official trailer for The Chemical Wedding was released yesterday and is available on YouTube. The film opens May 2008.

This is wonderful news! “Chemical Wedding” is one of my favorite Bruce Dickenson albums, and was heavily heavily influenced by the writings of William Blake. I can’t help but think those works also informed the film.
I’ve never really been into Iron Maiden, and when I attended a concert of theirs last year for my husband’s birthday I was surprised to found I recognized some of their songs, and even more astonished when I discovered I even liked some of them!
Very different from what I would have thought of as my “normal” taste – and the concert was certainly more theatrical than any I’d attended previously – or since.
I feel a mixed excitement about this movie. I have the feeling it will be similar to watching a movie version of a book: I know the “real” story, and that will undoubtedly colour my interpretation of the film, but I want to like it.
Out of curiosity, what types of music do you listen to normally? I can’t believe I’ve never asked you that.
