Agnostica is one of my favourite holidays of the year. It originated in the ever-popular online comic Nukees, by Darren Bleuel, with the date set as December 14th in 19991: the first truly secular winter holiday.
The following year, Bleuel fleshed out Agnostica a little more with holiday “traditions” in honour of the 100th anniversary of quantum physics. These include displaying boxes with unknown contents which remain unopened, ritual naked jello wrestling, the random bag of fun, Tang-nog, decorations such as mobius chains and even costume parties.
To celebrate this year’s Agnostica, today’s comic on Nukees.com features a new Agnotica decoration: a construction paper atomic orbital. My husband gave it a go, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work. Neat idea though.
Agnostica.com has more information with links and activities, or, of course, you could check out the first comic on Nukees.com here.
Have a safe and happy Agnostica, kids!
Footnotes:
- Though according to the comic, the true celebration should occur on the Solstice. No reason is given. [back]
